Radio Narrowbanding

12.5 kHz and 6.25 kHz Digital Radio Transition

By 2013, the FCC has mandated that all public safety communications licensees migrate legacy radio systems to new digital narrowbanding standards. ARINC knows this is a significant and challenging task for railroads. That’s why we’re leveraging our expertise in rail communications, systems engineering and integration, and interoperability testing to provide a fully managed solution. We’ll work with your staff to ensure seamless integration and deployment encapsulating a cost-conscious, beginning-to-end plan that makes sure all requirements are met on time.

ARINC is a single-source radio systems designer and integrator, and a trusted leader in commuter, light rail, freight, and transit rail communications. We have extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing land mobile radio (LMR) infrastructures, as well as command and control, security, and information systems in the industry.

We can develop a new voice and data infrastructure that is fully integrated with your backbone networks, communications consoles, network management systems, and command and control systems. Our highly skilled personnel assure minimal risk and disruption to your operations during the upgrading process.

To help evaluate existing radio systems and plan ahead for necessary upgrades, ARINC operates narrowbanding and interoperability test facilities. Customers, partners, and vendors can assess the full capabilities of their current systems and any new equipment to support a smooth transition to 12.5 kHz (narrowband) or 6.25 kHz (very narrowband) digital radio. We are committed to budget-conscious and adaptable solutions that ensure a smooth transition.
